Genetic diversity is fundamentally important in the continuation of the species of our plants. The genetic diversity among plants in any given species allows them to adapt to changing environmental conditions.
Genetic variation is described as the difference between plants caused by alternate forms of DNA.
Environmental variation is the difference in which each individual plant experiences.
These two variations together create the total phenotypic variation of the plant, the living organism as a whole.
Increasing genetic diversity provides the necessary adaptations for plants to thrive/survive in different environmental conditions and enables changes in the composition of the future generations DNA to cope with environmental changes.
